The final league meeting at Litherland saw 22 Horwich athletes turn out to protect the 1st places already held by both the men’s and the women’s sections.
This meeting would decide the final league positions and see who would gain promotion.
The Horwich contingent, as always, stepped up to the mark and produced some fantastic results.
Notable results were seen by Natassia Dacre achieving 1st places in the shot, javelin and discus for the U13G, Noah Saunders achieving 1st places in the 100m and 200m for the U13B and a 2nd place in the javelin, Sophie Williams achieving 1st places in the 100m and the long jump for the U13G and another 2nd in the javelin.
Jack Shaw produced a 1st place performance in the U15B javelin and new comer Alex Todd came 2nd in both the U15B 100m and 200m.
Zac Howe was the sole U17M in the team this week and produced a 1st place performance in the 1500m.
The U17W secured a 1st place in the javelin for Laura Tunstall and a 3rd place for Rebekah Atkinson in the 3000m.
The senior section consisted of 8 athletes with Mike Houghton securing 1st place in the triple jump, 2nd in the long jump, with a new club record of 4.91m and equalled the existing Senior men’s club record of 12.6s in the 100m.
Andrew Storey came 2nd in the triple jump and 4th in the long jump to secure further vital points for the team.
Trevor Williams, the oldest member of the team, came 3rd in both the shot and discus and 2nd in the javelin.
A special mention to Mark Dacre who produced a heroic run in the 400m to secure yet more points for the final tally.
The senior women were represented by Alison Storey and Helena Lawton who produced yet more outstanding performances with a 1st place in the discus for Alison together with two 3rd places in the shot and the long jump and Helena gained a 2nd place in the senior women’s javelin and a 3rd place in the 100m.

To qualify for a medal you must have competed in at least 2 of the previous Mid Lancs meetings this year. This competition is not run in divisions and only the top 3 athletes in all races and events will get a medal. If you have not competed at 2 previous meeting you can still enter but should you be placed in the top 3 you wouldn’t receive a medal.

Mid Lancs Meeting Report - Bolton 25.07.09
A record number of 30 athletes turned out for the 4th Mid Lancs Meeting at Bolton’s Leverhulme Park with the weather providing almost perfect conditions.
Regular competitors for this league were joined by 1st time attendees Helena Lawton, David Jack, Oliver Bretherton, Luke Murphy and Jonathan Powis.
4 new club records were set on the day with several other PBs being recorded as well.
New club records from:
David Jack, 100m Senior men 12.6s
Mike Houghton Triple Jump Senior men 10.90m
Laura Taylor Long Jump U13G 4.48m (G1)
Boys U13 4 x 100m relay 56.5s (Noah Saunders, James Lovell, Luke Murphy, Nathan Barlow)

English Junior Uphill Championships (Patterdale)
We had eight runners in this major junior championship and all performed excellently. We returned with Two Bronze Medals on a course that our juniors had never before experienced (a tough lakeland climb with no easy bits) Zac Howe got us underway with a fine fifth place in the u/16 U/18 race but more importantly third in the U/16 this was a very good performance with climbing for one mile.
Next came our u/12 u/14 juniors in the u/14 Joesph Howe ran well for eigth but was dissapointed but shouldnt be as he has another year in that category.
In the U/12 girls Phobe Howe gave her all and despite a nose bleed stopping her taking the silver medal ran well and clinched third and another Bronze Medal. Nathan Townsend was first u/12 for us in a fine 7th place closeley followed by Cameron Crichley in 8th. Johnathan Powis kept going to finish in 12th just ahead of Martha Gill by 8 seconds.Thomas Hughes was our final counter the smallest boy in the field with the biggest heart and finished 15th.
As junior fell captain I was very proud of the way the children ran and conducted themseves and they where all a credit to Horwich RMI Harriers. I hoped they would return with one medal due to the terrain and competition and they excelled with two.
