HORWICH RMI STAR QUARTET

Amy Phillpotts, Rebekah Atkinson, Laura Bannister and Laura Tunstall, four girls who are members of Horwich RMI in the under 15 cross country team , represented their school (Canon Slade) at the Northern Schools Regional Final . On a very cold and windy day in Barrow, these girls unfortunately narrowly missed out in qualifying for the National Final by only a few points. Over 72 runners competed on that day with Becky finishing 14th, Amy 18th, Laura T came 39th and Laura B 40th.

The next day, Becky, Amy and Laura B went on to compete for their school at the Biathlon Northern Regional Final in Liverpool, putting their disappointment of the previous day behind them, these girls gave an excellent performance.

Amy got awarded the best run for the fastest time at 1000m with Becky coming 3rd and Laura 8th. In the 100m swim Becky, Amy and Laura recorded personal bests.

Overall Becky came a fantastic 2nd, Amy 12th and Laura 18th. Both Becky and Amy will now go on to compete in the National finals in Bath in March 2009.

Well done to all four and good luck to Becky and Amy in the finals.

It was also a fund raising opportunity and to date we estimate we may collect in the region of £200 towards a local charity, Derian House.

There was fantastic help from the parents and other volunteers.
