2007 Christmas Heptathlon

Indoor Sportshall Agility Challenge

This was held at the Bolton Arena on Monday 3rd December 2007 and we had an incredible 65 Competitors from our own club competing! What a fantastic night, packed with fun for all those that took part. All the young athletes had to run, jump and throw in 7 different events in less than 2 hours.

This was predominantly a competition for our Under 12 years of age. Athletes were put into 7 different teams, all of which were Captained by the older Athletes i.e. from Under 13’s, & 15’s.

The winners were the “Cupid Team”, captained by Sam Mercer, with the rest of the team being, Noah Saunders, Alex Critchley, Amelia Atherton, Sally Burton, Holly Clarke, Jake Haslam, Jane Moorhouse and Penny.

It was also a fund raising opportunity and to date we estimate we may collect in the region of £400 towards a local charity Nr Chorley, “Rainbow House”.

A huge thank you for all the Parents, who helped officiating on the night. We could not have pulled off this type of event without that kind of support.

We had special guests on the night from Wigan Harriers, Don Moss and Sharon Walls (GB Athlete – presented the prizes). Sarah Friday from England Athletics also made a visit.

Finally, a big thank you to the Rotary Club of Horwich for supporting this year’s event. Rotarian Billy Bromilow commented on what a great event this was and it’s a credit to the Community of Horwich and Districts!

All our Athletes had a great night and they all competed with good spirit, great behaviour and gave their best for each event. Congratulations to everyone, they may their Coaches very proud!

A message from Neil Critchley

I have been to the Red Rose Cross Country meets this year and would like to give the Horwichs cross country junior team a mention.

Sam Boardman and Cameron Critchley are both securing top 10 spots in 5th and 9th respectively, I would like to mention that after a quarter of a mile on a very boggy surface Cameron lost his shoe, did not stop as he could not see where it went and completed in 16th on the day, one shoe Horwich record to Cameron.

It is getting a more regular occurance but two outstanding performances were given a dent sending athletes the wrong way, losers from Horwich on this occasion Jamie Crompton who was winning his race and Sam Boardman who was a strong 4th in his, well done to Simon Rasleigh and other Horwich Cross Country youngsters who are consistently showing strong performances off the track and road.

Keep it up, a fantastic future ahead I think for Horwich and the Steve Pearson and Ian Smith Dream team of runners.

Horwich RMI Athletes run for Lancashire

North West Regional Under 11’s Indoor Sportshall Athletics Final 2007

This Final was held at Sportcity, Manchester on 25th November 2007. Teams from the North West of England i.e. Cheshire, Manchester, Cumbria and Liverpool etc, competed in the County Finals of this event. Horwich RMI Harriers had 7 of their young athletes representing Lancashire on the day in a spectacular Competition.

All our young stars performed magnificently on the day in front of a large audience, against the top athletes from the North West and can be extremely proud of their efforts.

Congratulations to Martha Gill who was chosen as Captain of the Lancashire Girls Team. The Horwich Athletes produced fine performances including a new Lancashire record achieved by Natassia Dacre with an awesome throw of 17 metres.

All the running events were “team events” and all our athletes gave 100%, with some exciting races.

Congratulations to the following athletes that took part,

Martha Gill, Natassia Dacre, Georgia Chadbond, Noah Saunders
Jake Haslam, Nathan Townsend, Jonah Saunders & Ellie Dacre (1st Reserve).

The Under 11 Girls Team almost won the event, and finished in a fantastic 3rd Place, just 4 points behind 2nd place and 10 points behind the overall winners Liverpool.

For the Boys Under 11 Team, they also performed well finishing in 5th place overall, with the eventual winners being Liverpool, again!
