Report for Northern Outdoor Championships 2009 plus Junior League and Trafford Open

Jamie Crompton cemented his position as the UK’s number one U 17 steeplechaser by winning the North of England title. Jamie literally ran away from the competition winning by 20 seconds His time is a new club record and takes him into the top 30 of all time for the event.

Meanwhile a number of Horwich Athletes competed in other meetings over the Bank Holiday.

At the Junior League match at Preston and following his North of England win Jamie Crompton stepped up in distance to run the 2000m steeplechase and again continued his winning form in a time which takes him straight to the top of the UK rankings for an U 20 despite still only being 16.

Report for Lancashire Championships

Laura Taylor produced the run of her life to win the Lancashire U 13s hurdles title at the weekend and in doing so smash both the Club and the County Championship record.

Laura had only contested the 70 m Hurdles once before but ran confidently in her heat to finish in second place despite hitting a hurdle to qualify for the final. In the final she knew that she would have to run at least half a second faster than her heat to win and this she did and in the process broke the Championship Record. Laura also was close to her best in both the Long Jump and 100m making the finals in these events as well.

Also in the medals was Gary Priestly who had a solid run to finish 3rd in the Senior 5000m.
